IFA Berlin 2026, one of the three largest trade fairs for consumer electronics in the world (along with CES and MWC), was held at Messe Berlin from September 4 to 8 with the motto “The Future Is Now”. The show drew more than 1,900 exhibitors from 49 countries, and more than 220,000 visitors were expected to visit the exhibition space of around 160,000 square meters.
HIFINE is an OEM/ODM manufacturer of HEPA filters, air purifier filter cartridges, vacuum cleaner filters and many other home appliance filtration parts HIFINE keeps a close eye on the technology signals at these major global appliance shows. This year’s IFA sent a number of clear signals into where the product categories of “clean” and “clean air” are heading, and what that means for the brand owners, wholesalers, distributors and private label partners we work with around the world.
Three trends spotted at IFA 2026
- The Smart Cleaning “Arms Race” Continues Filter Performance is the Difference
This year, robot vacuums and cordless vacuum cleaners continued to be the star of the show. ECOVACS unveiled its next-generation DEEBOT line-up with a focus on whole-home cleaning coverage and deeper dust-mite removal; Dyson held a press conference to showcase its latest vacuum and air purification line-up; and brands like Tineco, Proscenic and Ultenic all unveiled expanded floor-care and whole-home cleaning portfolios. IFA also presented this year a new “Robot Runway” section, which showcased humanoid and home service robots, a clear indication that cleaning appliances are moving at a faster pace toward smarter and more scenario-specific designs.
Regardless of how smart these machines get, the real cleaning performance still depends on what’s inside: the filter and dust-collection system. At the end of the day, it is the high-performance filtration that governs the removal of allergens and dust and directly affects how the product is reviewed and perceived by the end consumers in competing overseas markets.
- “Healthy Breathing” Is Emerging as a Key Selling Point Across Appliance Categories
Haier’s brand story of AI moving “from smart appliances to smart living” is a reflection of the wider industry movement toward AI-driven, whole-home ecosystems. Health and air quality are clearly becoming a common language across the appliance industry. At the same time, mainstream consumer media and reviewers in the US and Europe are becoming increasingly fluent in filtration terminology. They now routinely distinguish between true “True HEPA” filters and “HEPA-type” or “HEPA-like” filters that don’t meet that criteria, and often recommend combining HEPA with activated carbon to handle both particulates and odors or VOCs.
To summarize, filtration grade, certified efficiency and multi-stage filter construction are moving from a technical spec tucked away in the back of the box to a front-and-center selling point that directly influences purchase decisions.
- OEM/ODM demand also grows China’s supply chain role keeps growing
This year’s IFA had a record number of Chinese exhibitors, which accounted for almost half the brands participating, from finished appliances to key components. Meanwhile, big names like Samsung and LG ramped up their B2B presence in Berlin to boost supplier and channel relationships. The message for global appliance brands and distributors is clear: a dependable and responsive core-component supply chain is now a critical part of keeping up with fast product cycles in categories like smart cleaning and air purification.
Implications for filtration sourcing
Looking at the signals coming out of this year’s show, we can see a few clear directions for overseas brand owners, distributors and private label customers in terms of filter sourcing:
Higher filtration levels become the new normal. The trend is moving away from standard HEPA to H13/H14-grade media, often in combination with activated carbon or antimicrobial coatings.
Better fit and compatibility. As models of robot vacuums, cordless vacuums and wet-dry floor washers become more differentiated, and filter cartridges require more custom-engineering to specific machine designs and seal configurations.
Increasing need for third-party verified performance data. More brands and private label partners are demanding documented, testable filtration efficiencies to back health-focused marketing claims.
Reliability and speed of the supply chain as a main source criteria. Tighter product launch windows means being able to turn around samples, testing and mass production quickly is a real competitive advantage.”
