The most useful measurement is usually the inside diameter, as it determines the size of the internal passageway for air flow.
Take a measurement straight across the inside opening with a ruler or, better yet, a digital caliper. Record the result in mm or inches.
Hoses may have inside diameters of 32 mm, 35 mm, 36 mm, 1.5 inches, or other nominal sizes.
Never assume that a listed “nominal size” on a product listing is the exact same as the actual measurement. Different hose and connector designs can have different end geometries for the same nominal diameter.
